How to Clone Your Voice With AI

How many times have we all heard those same AI voiceovers?

These voices are overused, and in no way make your videos stand out.

But, there’s a way to use AI voices that no one else can use…

And that’s by cloning your own.

So in this article, you’ll learn how to clone your voice with AI in two easy steps.

Right, let’s get to it.

Step 1: Audio Recording

The first thing we need to do is record some sample audio to be cloned.

How you go about this depends on what kind of equipment you have.

If you have a microphone, definitely use that. If not, try using your phone as a microphone to record yourself speaking.

The most important thing here is making sure the audio quality is as high as possible.

So what do I mean by that?

No background noise – try to record indoors in as quiet a place as possible.
Speaking clearly in the same tone that you want your cloned voice to have.

So, how long should you record your voice?

There is no given set amount of time here, but in my opinion, the more information the AI has to work with, the better.

I suggest recording 2 to 3 30-second clips of you speaking.

Once that’s done, it’s time to clean up the audio using a free tool.

Head over to Adobe Podcast Enhance, click on choose files, and select your first voice recording.

Download the newly enhanced recording, and repeat the process with your remaining audio clips.

Let’s move on to the next step.

Step 2: Cloning Your Voice

The tool we’re going to be using is called Eleven Labs.

To clone your voice, you’ll need a starter account, which costs $5 US dollars a month.

Once you’re signed up, head over to voices

Then add a new voice.

Then, instant voice cloning.

Add a name to your voice, upload your samples and if you want, give it a description.

Then let’s click Add Voice.

Now your voice is cloned and ready to go.

To find your newly cloned voice, head over to my voices – personal, and we should see our newly created voice here, so click use, and your voice is ready to go.

You can now enter any text that you like, and your newly cloned voice will do the speaking.

Once that’s done, you can select the download button to download the audio.

Should You Use a Cloned Voice in Your Videos?

So the big question is, should you use a cloned voice in your videos?

Well, if you’re going to be using an AI voice anyway, I think the answer is yes.

It will make your channel unique and stand out from the others who are all using the same voices we hear everywhere.

I think these cloned voices lend themselves especially well to short-form content, where the viewer has less time to clock that the voice is AI. Plus, the viewers will likely have a higher tolerance to AI-generated voices in short form content, so will be more likely to watch.

So, I do believe it’s a powerful tool that can massively improve the efficiency of your workflow, but is it a complete replacement for natural voiceovers?

No, probably not, but if you’re looking to pump out content like no tomorrow, this is probably the way to go.

It takes me a long time to record audio for a video and voice cloning speeds this process up 10 fold.

So I’m probably going to experiment with using a cloned voice for short-form content and see how it goes.
